The German group ThyssenKrupp is building a steel complex in the Industrial District of Santa Cruz, in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, on the banks of Sepetiba Bay.
This complex, an investment of 3 billion euros, will consist of an integrated plant for the production of 5 million tons of steel slabs, a thermoelectric plant with a capacity to generate 490 MW and a port terminal for receiving imported coal and transporting it. of the entire production of the plant. This is the largest project in the Brazilian steel sector in the last 10 years.
The plant will be powered by a transmission system composed of 500 kV lines and substation, and will distribute electricity internally to the production units through a redundant 138 kV system. This power distribution system will apply several innovative technologies to industrial systems, such as: insulated high voltage cables, resonant grounding system and IEC61850 protocol.
FIGENER is providing consultancy in the areas of thermoelectric generation and power systems, working in partnership with FICHTNER GmbH in the technical evaluation activities of the plant's implementation project. This assessment involves both technical aspects (eg, compliance with Brazilian standards) and management (eg, schedules, risk analysis, suggestions for mitigation measures).
