The increase in the complexity and size of the projects, as well as the need to guarantee the quality of the work performed, demand an efficient engineering process for the design and construction of substations. The traditional process based on plans and 2D drawings and lists of materials disaggregated among themselves do not allow the necessary agility to the workflow. The necessary efficiency can only be achieved through new methods, such as, for example, solutions based on BIM tools (from English Building Information Modeling). This article describes the solutions adopted in the development of a BIM package for large substation projects.
