This article describes a generic approach to model the static and dynamic behavior of protection relays. A protection relay - overcurrent, impedance or any other type - is modeled using a multi-level method. Phenomena such as CT saturation and the transient behavior of capacitive TPs can be studied by running a simulation of electromagnetic transients in the time domain in conjunction with complete models. A graphical interface shows any desired parameter on a single-line diagram or on a time domain graph.
