FIGENER participates in the CSA project ThyssenKrupp Steel Mill

German group ThyssenKrupp is building a new steel mill in the Santa Cruz Industrial District, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, by the Sepetiba bay.

That industrial complex represents a 3 billion Euro investment, and will comprise an integrated mill for the production of 5 million ton/year of steel plates, a thermal power plant rated for 490 MW and a harbor for coal receiving and product shipment. It is Brazil's largest steel sector investment in the past 10 years.

The mill will be fed by a transmission system composed of 500 kV lines and substation, and will distribute electric energy internally for its production units through a redundant 138 kV network. That electrical distribution system will apply many state-of-the-art technologies for industrial systems, such as: insulated high-voltage cables, resonating earthing system, and IEC61850 protocol.

FIGENER is rendering consulting services for CSA in the fields of thermal and electric power generation, acting in partnership with FICHTNER GmbH in the activities of technical evaluation of the plant's implementation project. That evaluation involves both technical (e.g. compliance to Brazilian standards) and managerial aspects (e.g. Schedules, risk assessment, etc.).
